NEWS

Playing Arrangements

Dear Members,

As from tomorrow, the 1st June, Doubles play is allowed. Great news for us older members who are not quite as "light on our loafers" as we used to be!
Please read the advice on the LTA Website:
https://www.lta.org.uk/about-us/tennis-news/news-and-opinion/general-news/2020/march/coronavirus-covid-19---latest-advice/

But the salient points are be sensible, don't linger/congregate, and use hand sanitiser before and after play. We are keeping the court booking system in place for now.

Many thanks,

Re-Opening Of Club Tennis Courts

Following the announcements made by Government in recent days and fresh advice received today from the LTA, I am pleased to advise that our tennis courts will be re-opened to all existing members with effect from 9am tomorrow, Wednesday 13 May 2020. In summary, singles play is now permissible, but doubles is not (unless there are four members from the same household).
To manage the re-opening of our courts, the club has set up a court booking facility on our website and this is now available for existing members to use.

Kent LTA Notice

Hi everyone. I trust and hope that you and your respective families are well and staying safe in these difficult times.

I received an email yesterday evening from Kent LTA, advising the Club that following their most recent meeting the non usage of all tennis courts has been extended from 31 May to 28 June. Because of this, Kent LTA has further determined that their Summer League be cancelled. The North Kent League usually mirrors the decisions of the Kent LTA so I am expecting confirmation that the North Kent Summer League will similarly be cancelled in the coming days. At the moment it remains the expectation that the Winter Leagues will be played.

Whilst the actions of the Kent LTA are totally understandable, I know the continual non playing of our great game will be of great disappointment to all of you. Assuming the North Kent Summer League is cancelled I shall be contacting you again about the issue of club fees for 2020/21, which ordinarily fall due on 1 April, once the non-playing restrictions are lifted.

Clearly it would be inappropriate to expect full payment based on the existing rates detailed on our website. I am aware that some members have already paid this year’s membership fees and they will be reimbursed in due course. A decision on the level of fees will be taken by your Committee.

Finally for those of you that have the WhatsApp facility on your mobile or tablet, around 50% of existing members are on our general club tennis group. Anyone wishing to be added to this group please contact Dave Kane.

With very best wishes

Goverment Announcement

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday evening (23 March) that all tennis facilities and courts should be closed, and tennis coaching and activity should be put on hold with immediate effect

Due to COVID-19 the May 10th Open Day is under revue, please check back later for more information.

The absolute priority of everyone in Britain needs to be protecting the health of the nation, with a requirement to dramatically adjust our behaviour to help slow the spread of the disease, prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed, and ultimately save lives. The way everyone can do this is complying with the Government’s guidance and staying at home.

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday evening (23 March) all tennis facilities and courts should be closed, and tennis coaching and activity should be put on hold with immediate effect.
The National Tennis Centre is closed, and all activity delivered by the LTA remains suspended for the foreseeable future, including all LTA organised coaching sessions, programmes and training courses. We have also now extended the cancellation of all LTA staged and LTA approved competitions (grade 1 to 6) up to 31 May 2020.

During these challenging times for our society, our focus over the coming weeks will be to ensure tennis coaches, venues, volunteers, officials and players are supported in any way they can be, so that tennis in Britain emerges from this period in as strong and healthy position as possible, and the sport is able to resume its role in keeping the nation active.

We are continuing to work with Government to help us achieve this, and establishing what further support can be provided to help all those impacted by this unprecedented situation.

Winter Tournaments

it has been a successful winter campaign for our four teams.

In the Kent League our Vets One finished third in Division 3B, and the Vets Two finished fifth in Division 4B.

In the North Kent Winter League our Men's One consolidated on their promotion last year with a creditable third place in Division 2B.

Pride of place this winter goes to our Men's Two who, having won all four matches in Division 4A, won the Division 4 Trophy on 15 March by beating Division 4B winners Oakwood Two by a 3-1 scoreline.

Many congratulations go to Dan Rodrigues and his team of Nathan Burchell, Richard Fearn, Steve Frogley, Steven Glenny, Andy Rodrigues and David Williams.
